Personal

Alexander Mirescu has worked in international affairs and development for a decade. After a Master’s degree in Austria and refugee work in Bosnia, he defended his dissertation in comparative politics at the New School for Social Research in New York City in 2011. From 2009 to 2010, Mirescu worked in policy coordination at UNDP, followed by consultancies at UNOIOS and UNDESA.

As an assistant professor of political science, the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction selected Mirescu as a promoter for the United Nation’s “Making Cities Resilient Campaign” in 2015. He regularly participates in public lectures, publishes research on disaster risk reduction and works with government on adopting resilience and risk-reducing policies.

In 2016, he co-founded RESILIÉNT/CITY, LLC, a global consultancy that advises national governments, legislators, civil society groups and municipal leaders on achieving sustainable development, disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation through enhancing resilience-based governance. An avid runner and classical pianist, Mirescu speaks fluent English, Romanian, German, and Spanish and is conversational in Serbian and French.
